John started swirling around 1988 and he is completely self-taught. He has since taught many others to Swirl, mostly in the Key West, FL area.

In 1999 John performed onstage with Cher in New York City and Buffalo.

John could be seen every other week performing at Atlantic Shores in Key West at the Sunday Tea Dance.

John's swirling is a form of the art of Poi.

John uses the chemical glow lightsticks that are used by divers that come in many colors. He ties them onto strings at intervals - three glow sticks per string. John spins these strings of lights at high speeds in various patterns around his body while dancing to music. The effect is circles of light moving around his body.
